Establishing ATV Trails Within the City of Greater Sudbury
The Chelmsford CAN would like to invite you to a presentation Monday, May 13th at 6:30 at Club 50, 25 Main St. West (behind St. Joseph’s church)to inform the public on the progress of ATV trail development within the community, to establish an ATV committee for the west area of Greater Sudbury and to recruit possible partnerships and volunteers.
With the ATV municipal pilot project enabling residents to ride responsibly on our streets it just make sense to take this one step further and establish trails within our communities. Our residents would like to leave their homes on their ATVs and go to the outskirts for lunch or a day trip or possibly go beyond the limits to cities such as Elliot Lake for a few days and have other ATV riders visit our area as well.
We are currently working with the Greater Sudbury ATV Association. This newly formed group has not yet had the opportunity to develop any trails. However, trail development is one of their top priorities and is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2013.
We are also aiming to establish a relationship with the Sudbury Trail Plan to utilise the current trail system. This partnership would allow maintenance of the trails year round while providing responsible, safe, legal and environmentally friendly trails.
The Chelmsford CAN is establishing a sub-committee to work on this long-term project and invites other CANs to do so. There is strength in numbers therefore working together on such a project would enable an easier by-in from the City, the Sudbury Trail Plan, the land owners for trail permissions and the businesses that would benefit from tourism dollars.
Our goal is to create our own association or have a chapter to promote an enjoyable riding experience for all type of riders, and the safe use of a trail system in the City of Greater Sudbury and its surrounding communities. We also want to improve the public's view of ATV riders and most importantly gain the respect of the landowners as the majority of riders a very responsible and respectful.
Dates to keep in mind for meetings open to the public:
May 1st – Greater Sudbury ATV monthly meeting at 7 pm at 142 Eyre St.
May 6th - Room C-11 at Tom Davies Square at 4 pm sharp. Operations Committee will give an update on the ATV ByLaw. Keep checking for agenda.
If you would like more information about this topic or to confirm your presence, please do not hesitate to call me at 705-855-5933.

Community Gardens
On May 5th 2012, members and friends of the Chelmsford Community Action Network came together to build a community garden. A year in the making, people were really eager to get this project underway. Following the lead of Mr. Chartrand, our “project foreman”, volunteers spent the day assembling boxes and securing them into the ground. Our former Chair, Mr. Spencer, was manning the bbq and made sure that everyone kept their energy by grilling a delicious lunch.

Community Festival
As many of you may have heard, Western Days will not be taking place in June, 2012. In fact, it won't be happening at all! After reading the many comments on the Chelmsford, ON Facebook page, Councillor Berthiaume invited the residents to the CAN meeting on April 16th. We heard from a few concerned citizens who are willing to take charge and organize a "Family Fun Day" sometime in 2013. This will be done as a subcommittee of the Community Action Network.
They are looking for volunteers. If you'd like to get involved, please email chelmsford.community@hotmail.com.

Jardin d'Inspiration Garden
Notice how the property at the corner of Errington and Main has had a major facelift? The CAN, along with Councillor Claude Berthiaume, was instrumental in the beautification of the piece of land.
Nobody likes an empty lot, especially when it's right downtown. This type of community-led initiative will continue to make Chelmsford a better place to live, one project at a time.
So please, grab a book or a snack and have a seat at the park. It's there for you.
